"The gospel, applied to our hearts every day, frees us to be brutally honest with ourselves and with God. The assurance of His total forgiveness of our sins through the blood of Christ means we don't have to play defensive games anymore. We don't have to rationalize and excuse our sins. We can say we told a lie instead of saying we exaggerated a bit. We can admit an unforgiving spirit instead of continuing to blame our parents for our emotional distress. We can call sin exactly what it is, regardless of how ugly and shameful it may be, because we know that Jesus bore that sin in His body on the cross. With the assurance of total forgiveness through Christ, we have no reason to hide from our sins anymore."...

Ephesians 5:23-30 is a familiar passage to most of us. (It’s the one about husbands and wives relating to one another as Christ and the church do.) While it’s a great passage about husbands and wives, it carries far greater significance. There are many different images in the Bible to describe the church, but none more clearly communicate the way God binds Himself in l...

Yesterday was a day many will not easily forget. Sixteen months after a young black man was murdered minutes from this community a jury decided that his killer acted in self-defense. There are those who applaud the verdict and those who did not. We desire not to address the validity of the verdict but the heart of the genuine believer in response....

Like many people who grow up in the church, Jen was raised by parents with strong morals and a church that taught principals teaching of purity and abstinence. Like so many others, she fell into sin and ended up pregnant. As a result of her indescretion she felt like she was walking around with an increasingly large scarlett letter on her stomach. She condemned herself and...
